Songs to Wear Pants To
If They Might Be Giants did improv... well, it probably wouldn't sound quite like this. But this request-a-song service is still great fun.
New webspace, and other things

Due to other priorities and a tendency to procrastinate, I've neglected the Work in Progress site for quite a while. However, there are several new things to report in this update.

  1. In case you hadn't noticed, I finally have my own domain name, with a subdomain dedicated to the comic. From now on, Work in Progress will be located at http://progress.alyciashedd.com. Please update your bookmarks accordingly.
  2. The About page includes a Project page dedicated to the academic aspects of the comic--including my thesis paper on the infinite canvas.
  3. Based on the feedback from my BFA show, I've created a short tutorial for viewing the comic. Let me know if you're still confused.

Unfortunately, it may be some time before Chapter 2 is up and running. I'm in the midst of searching for a job and reevaluating the comic as a whole.

The best laid plans...

Okay, obviously it's not Monday. Unfortunately, my plans to get the comic finished this weekend were derailed. I won't bore you with the details, but suffice it to say that some stuff came up which took precedence over updating the website. Still, I managed to get the second half of Chapter 1 online, only a couple of days late.

Chapter 2 is on hold while I finish my thesis and prep for graduation--expect it sometime in early May. In the meantime I'll be tweaking the site itself and adding supplemental materials based on my thesis work.

The comic has officially begun!

At long last, the first official installment of Work in Progress, entitled "the white room," is complete and online. Part 2 will be online by Monday at the latest. After that...well, it depends on my workload, but I'll do my best to put up a new installment every two weeks.

You'll notice that I've made a lot of changes in the format and art style since "Apples and Oranges" went up a year or so ago. I like to think that they're changes for the better, but if you disagree (and even if you don't), feel free to email me and let me know what you think.

Which brings me to my next announcement: since I'll be graduating from U of I this May, Work in Progress and my personal site will be moving to a new webhost. I'll have another announcement when the time comes, but in the meantime, I'm changing my primary email account. From now on, if you wish to contact me, please use leeshajoy@gmail.com.

An anime-themed online role-playing community. A bit buggy, but fun.
The comic formerly known as Crystal Carpenters

As you can see, I have decided to change the name of my webcomic. Why? Several reasons:

  1. The Crystal Carpenters logotype was confusing to some people--the oversized "R" made it hard to read.
  2. The name "Crystal Carpenters" was only tangenitally related to the comic. "Work in Progress" more accurately reflects the content of the comic, which is about art and artists and the creative process.
  3. In addition to being about works in progress, this comic, like most web-based works, is itself a work in progress, constantly being updated and revised as time goes on. Therefore, the name "Work in Progress" is a perfectly appropriate title.

With the BFA show rapidly approaching, I'm kicking production on the comic into high gear. Expect a lot more updates in the weeks ahead.
